What You Can Expect from this Course

Unit 1: Brain, Glorious Brain

The first part of the course is about better understanding the brain and how it works. Dr. Suzuki takes participants on a quick tour of the brain, identifying the major structures and their functions. She then teaches about the brain’s plasticity, how memories are formed, as well as what happens when memory decline begins to take hold.

Wendy Suzuki, PhD

Dr. Wendy Suzuki is a Professor of Neural Science and Psychology in the Center for Neural Science at New York University. She is best known for her extensive work studying areas in the brain critical for our ability to form and retain new long-term memories. More recently her work has focused on understanding how aerobic exercise may be used to help improve learning, memory, and higher cognitive abilities in humans.

Dr. Suzuki is a multiple-time TEDx speaker, a presenter at The Moth, and is regularly interviewed on television and in print about her work on the effects of exercise on brain function. She recently published her first book, Happy Brain, Happy Life.
